If you spend thousands of dollars in the wrong place, SEO will feel “dead.”
A client told me on an intro call that he had already spent almost $12k hiring different SEO blog writers. The content was good, but it was not getting any sales.
At that point, he believed that SEO content no longer works.
But the reality is that his approach was wrong. He didn’t have a proper strategy.
SEO in 2026 does not work like SEO in 2022. You need to have a compact strategy built around SEO + content. And that’s where you need to decide whether you need an SEO writer or an SEO content team.
You choose the wrong option…and you lose money…just like our client did.
But after reading this blog, I’m 100% sure you won’t make this mistake.
So let’s get in.
What Actually Goes Into SEO Content (Hint: It’s Not Just SEO Writing)
Google considers how well you cover a topic to build topical authority & insert your credibility in your niche. AI models check if you’ve answered related questions and covered connected ideas.
Writing is just one part of SEO content. There’s a whole list of stuff that you need to take care of.
From start to end, here’s what’s included in SEO content that gets you the results you want:
- Finding keyword opportunities based on what searchers want and business value
- Mapping search intent (informational, commercial, transactional)
- Building topic clusters around your core content pillars to build authority on a subject
- Planning content around main topics and prioritizing content that supports your business’s goals.
- SEO writing aligned with what searchers actually want to see
- On-page optimization beyond keywords (related terms, schema, page structure)
- Publishing through CMS with user experience and engagement in mind
- Internal linking to pass authority between pages
- Indexing, crawl optimization, and page speed
- Updating, combining, and removing content based on performance
- Tracking performance and adjusting based on data
So you see, writing comes somewhere in the middle. If you miss any one thing before or after writing, you don’t get the expected results. And just an SEO writer can’t handle all of this. You need a proper SEO content team for this.
How to Know Who to Hire, To Get Intended Results

Scenario 1: You Know Nothing About SEO, But Starting a Business & Want to Establish Organic Presence = Hire a Team
You run a business. You know your industry. But SEO content isn’t your strength.
Right now, you don’t:
- Have SEO knowledge internally
- Understand topical authority or content clustering
- Know how keyword intent maps to revenue
- Have a system to plan, publish, and optimize content
At this point, you need an SEO content team to strategize and create content.
And this team should include;
A small SEO content team who know their shit very well:
- SEO strategist who knows how to align your business offerings/services with your target audience’s pain points + search queries
- SEO writer who knows how to write and make your target audience + Google + LLMs fall in love with content
- SEO content manager who can effectively upload + optimize + track your content
I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly. In SEO, avoiding structural mistakes matters more than publishing fast. You can’t outrun a broken foundation.
- Writers don’t know how to strategize for topical authority
- There is no SEO/AISEO strategy in place
- You’re publishing content in silos
- There are tons of technical & on-page SEO issues on your site
- You’re unable to give feedback & directions to your writers
- No one is thinking about how AI models will interpret topic coverage
Scenario 2: You Have Knowledge, But You Don’t Have Time = Hire a Team

You know that you need a specialist for each task (SEO + Content + Management).
But you hire:
- One freelancer for keyword research from Fiverr
- Another freelancer for writing from Upwork
- One designer from the Philippines
Three months later, you see that you didn’t get any traffic or leads. Your budget is draining, and you’re wasting your time managing everything.
Now you’re wondering what went wrong. I can tell you what’s wrong here:
- No one built a compact content strategy
- Everyone works separately with no shared direction
- No one owns content optimization and updates.
- You’re chasing rankings without an end goal in mind, following a plan
The freelancers you hire at this point have the skills. You don’t have to blame them. It was your hiring + strategy problem. Hire a team at this point, and you’ll see that everyone is working collaboratively. They’re following a plan. And you’ll see measurable results.
Scenario 3: You understand SEO/AISEO + Have A Team Already = Hire Only SEO Writers
This is when hiring only an SEO writer actually works.
Because Now;
- You already mapped out topics and how they connect
- Keyword intent + search intent is clearly defined
- Main topic and supporting content structure exist
- You can properly internal link your content. Internal linking rules are set up
- CMS and technical SEO are stable
- You review and update content performance regularly
The role of an SEO writer here is clear. They’ll execute your strategy. Write high-quality, search-intent-focused content. And then you’ll be good to go for getting rankings in Google & mentions in AI.
Your SEO Knowledge + State Determines Who You Should Hire
Hiring decisions shouldn’t be based on price. They should be based on your SEO knowledge + your objectives & goals.
First of all, evaluate where you are you;
- Foundational (you’re just starting a website, you don’t have a structure, so you need to build a foundational strategy = hire a team.
- Fragmented (you’ve website and content, but no compact strategy: You need to audit your website + current content = you need a team. Pieces exist → needs orchestration
- Operational (you’re already getting results from your SEO efforts: You only need to keep going + creating content = Hire an SEO writer → needs execution
If you hire the wrong person without understanding where you standing you’ll waste money and time. And forget about growing your business organically. The right hire at the wrong level wastes money. The right hire at the right level compounds results.
What an SEO Strategy Actually Looks Like (Before You Hire Anyone)
SEO writing without a strategy is just like throwing stones in the ocean. SEO writing with a strategy positions your business as the best solution for your audience’s problem.
The saiqic team usually spends 6+ hours on developing & building the strategy before creating/writing any single piece of content. All of our solid SEO strategies include:
- A clear understanding of your target audience and what they are actually looking for. We hate throwing stones in the ocean.”
- The core web content (the homepage + services/products pages, etc) and how they’ll align with business goals + target audience. Create core pages that directly support your real business goals.
- A content plan for blogs/articles that cover all the transactional + commercial + informational keywords in your niche.
- Content hierarchy + internal linking strategy (aka which page/topic supports which one).
- A clear content calendar to publish content on the site.
A solid SEO + content strategy is the one that answers questions like who is this content actually for? What problems are people searching to solve? Where should SEO support the business, not just the blog?
Result-Driven SEO Content is A Collaboration Between You and The SEO Writer
You can’t expect a writer’s work to line up with what you were thinking if you don’t give them a detailed instruction or a content brief to follow.
Even if you know nothing about how SEO content works, you’ll still need to give all the information about your business, target audience, and what you expect from the content. That’s why I call it a collaboration.
And if the writer only knows HOW to write content and doesn’t have an understanding of an overarching content strategy and SEO, you’ll fail.
So if you’re a genius business owner and SEO content is not your cup of tea, hire a team. The team will extract the information from you that they need. And your job will become a lot easier.
Mostly, I have seen that business owners hire an SEO writer just to save some bucks…but that’s a mindless spending as it doesn’t bring any ROI. 100 bucks spent in the right place is a better investment than 10 bucks at the wrong place.
You Can’t Afford the Wrong Hire in 2026
SEO has changed (or what I love to call, evolved) in 2026. Google is not the only search engine…now your target customers are searching/asking LLMs about your services or products. So you need to be very strategic to achieve your SEO content goals. SEO + writing + management now works as ONE entity. Nothing is separate. And you won’t get results if any of this is weak.
It all boils down to who you hire, considering your current state. The wrong hire will doom your money and time. The right hire will grow your business in a way that’ll make you happy dance.
If you are confused and still need to talk to someone…talk to Saiqic.
